We’d like to welcome Paul and Mike to the board at Trust Oldham – both are Oldham Athletic fans and have committed to help Trust Oldham with our shared aims and objectives and as we have mentioned, some of this will be helping Trust Oldham be the best Supporters’ Trust that we can be.

Introducing Paul

I want to see improved club communications and thereby engagement with and participation of all Latics fans.

I am 66 years old, married, with 5 grown up children and 3 grand children. I have been a Latics supporter since my Dad took me along when I was around 8 years old. This season I have sat in the Main Stand and previously had a box.  Over the years (through CycleWild) I have been a match or ball sponsor on occasions.

My main working life was spent with The PJH Group Ltd of Bolton where I was Operations Director.  From small beginnings we grew to become the largest wholesalers of Bathroom & Kitchen furniture in the UK. When we (team of 5 Shareholder Directors) sold the business in 2005 we had a turnover of £150million, profit before tax of £9million+ and 750 employees.

I was also Managing Director of two wholly owned subsidiaries of the group.  On Site Services, Selling and installing white goods to blue chip major house-builders such as Persimmon and also Wellness Whirlpools, Manufacture, sales and distribution of domestic spa baths to bathroom retailers and DIY outlets. I started this operation in 2000 and by 2004 it was the second largest manufacturer in the UK.

In 2005, having been a keen cyclist all my life, with a friend, I started CycleWild, a cycling events company, providing cycling holidays and charity based cycling events. It was very much a lifestyle choice business, very hands on, designing routes, booking hotels, risk assessments, finding customers, and then guiding them on the bike. We didn’t earn lots of cash but had some fun and managed to work in countries as diverse as Iceland and Cambodia as well as many in between. We closed this business a couple of years ago.

I have good listening, communication and motivational skills, a pragmatic approach to problem solving and am not afraid to get stuck in. I also have a proven and demonstrable ability to analyse and improve procedures. I am discreet, comfortable working on my own or as part of a team and would be delighted if my skills could be of use in helping the football team I have supported for 50+ years.

Introducing Mike

I would like to see the fan base united again!

After leaving college I trained as a Professional Golfer qualifying in the late 1990’s as a PGA Class A Professional. For a number of years, I had combined playing tournaments with teaching golfers of all ages and abilities before concentrating on playing tournaments throughout the world.

I returned to take a 20% share in a golf club where I became Director of Golf and was responsible for increasing membership by nearly 30% whilst overseeing all aspects of the club including restaurant and bar. I was heavily involved in running corporate golf days around the Northwest and also working with the PGA in actively seeking sponsorship for tournaments and hospitality packages working with blue chip companies with a global presence.

After selling my shares in the golf club, I set up a retail golf business both on the high street and online with a fellow golf professional both having a 50% shareholding. From a standing start we quickly developed the business into one of the biggest golf retailers in the UK with a turnover of almost £20 million per year and was later awarded by The Sunday Times as being in the UK’s top 100 privately owned firms.

Following an illness to my wife and subsequent bereavement I sold my 50% shareholding and took a 2-year sabbatical. On my return to work, I decided to combine my experiences from the sport and hospitality industry and have over the past decade been involved in corporate travel which had initially started by specialising in moving sportsmen and teams around the globe but quickly changed to working with companies from retail, legal and construction industries to name but three. Like everyone else we have been hampered in recent times by Covid-19 but are currently working on a number of different ideas to cope with the ever-changing world we live in, so watch this space!

I have been a lifelong Latics fan since attending my first game in 1979 holding a season ticket since 1981. I attend games with my 8-year-old son who like me attended his first game aged just 4. Despite the troubles the club has faced over the past 20 years I believe the club can rise again and although there is some polarised views amongst the supporters, I respect all views and hope to be able to bring the fans together with the help of others so that the club can benefit and move forward.

Both Paul and Mike have great business experience and love Latics and we are always interested in hearing from anyone else who would be interested in joining the board.
